Review - Oilhead - Make Your Move

Electronic dance rock disco with unique female vocals. Try pitching that cd to someone. When I first stumbled upon Oilhead’s EP Make Your Move, I wasn’t sure that it was going to work as advertised. Short version of the story: It does.

If you have only seen their video release for “I’m Crazy, Deal With It”, you only have a small piece of the total package. While a good song to start off with, and very catchy, it doesn’t really show the diversity of all the influences present on this release. You really owe it to yourself to give the whole EP a listen.

Starting off with the track “Heart Break Shake”, you get to hear the electronic dance music influence through the keyboards and samples present throughout the song. “Pants Party” continues this trend mixing keyboard with the rest of the band to give the track an almost throwback dance feel. Everything mixes well and Britteny’s unique vocal tone adds to the bands appeal. “C.A.T.S.” is modeled more after the style of the single release “I’m crazy, Deal with it”. The EP ends with the track “Haunted”, which blends everything together and ends up being one of the heaviest tracks on the EP halfway through the song.

Oilhead isn’t going to stick to a single genre. They aren’t going for technical vocals or intense guitar solos. They know who they are as a band and they make music that fits their own unique style. Make Your Move is fun, infectious, and very solid from start to finish. This is one that will probably work its way into your playlist on a pretty consistent basis. You can listen to the whole EP and pick it up for only $3 from the Bandcamp insert below. I recommend that you do.
