Carly Jo Jackson is a 19 year old artist with one cd already under her belt and a new single out as well. Her relentless schedule of live performances show her determination and willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed. Her new single “Wildflower” showcases just how far she has come in a short time with her music. I had a few questions for the upcoming artist which she graciously answered:
What is the most valuable lesson you have learned to date in your music career?
The most valuable lesson I have learned in music is that I’ll never be the best. No one will, because everyone has the ability to always get better. The need for continuing improvement truly keeps me moving in my career. It is also why I am constantly performing — you can only go so far sitting on the couch singing and playing guitar to yourself.
How do you approach songwriting, and how personal do you get with your lyrics?
I song-write every day, and for me, there is no sure fire way of approaching it. Most of the time I let out a load of lyrics when I am at an emotional high. I find that is when it’s easiest to share how I feel and it ends up being a big release, almost like therapy sometimes. On that note, I get very personal with my lyrics; like I always say, it’s as if you are opening my diary and reading out loud. There is just no holding back when I write lyrics.
What is your personal goal for the next two years?
Over the next two years I hope to have a strong backing band and go on tour. I want more opportunities and I feel that a tour and a band would open up doors for me. I also have so many new songs and I am constantly writing, I hope to find the opportunity and backing to record more music.
What would you say has been your biggest accomplishment to date?
My biggest accomplishment to date was being able to record with a music hero of mine Chris Carrabba, lead singer of Dashboard Confessional. Being able to keep my nerves down to get into a writing/recording session with a star is something I am proud of accomplishing. Hearing his voice next to mine really allowed me to realize how fortunate I was, it was a true personal achievement indeed. The younger me listening to her Dashboard Confessional album would have freaked to know what the future held!
Where would you most like to play?
First, I want to play at the House of Blues in Orlando, FL. It is not the biggest venue, and I know many artists at my current standing have played there, but it is where I first witnessed Colbie Caillat in concert three years ago and was inspired to start playing guitar and I would just feel so accomplished being on that same stage. But my big dream and where I would most love to play is the Amway Arena in Orlando. This is because I grew up in Orlando watching huge events there dreaming that my big break was soon to come. It would be a such a wonderful moment for me.
