Review - Orestea - This Is An Overture

Orestea will be releasing their brand new EP This Is An Overture on September 10. If you want to hear the bands finest work to date, I suggest you pick this one up.

Orestea’s latest release is an EP comprised of four very unique and finely crafted songs. Each one stands on its own and brings something different to the EP. The opening track “The Game” is an excellent example of how far the band has matured in their songwriting ability. The lyrics are skillfully woven among the excellent instrumentals which is quite a task considering the depth the songwriting has in this release. These aren’t songs that were written to please the critics of top 40 radio. These are skillfully written emotional pieces that will remain timeless.

The second song on the Ep, “Miss Catastrophe”, takes on more of a light-hearted tone that we aren’t used to seeing from Orestea. While the subject matter is about things going wrong, they take it in a different direction and focus on learning from and accepting the bad things that happen in life. As much as I initially rejected the idea of a happy Orestea song, the track will win you over by midpoint. You will be singing lines from “Miss Catastrophe” whether you choose to do so freely or not.

“Hope & Fear” and “Just You Keep Telling Yourself That” round off the excellent package with the same attention to detail that is present throughout. I have been following Orestea for a while now and i’m happy to say that this is not only the best material they have ever released, but one of the best releases I have heard this year as well. You can pre-order the EP from this link: http://orestea.bigcartel.com/ I highly suggest that you do.
