Thank You For Three Years Of Support

 

 As of the 11th of this month, BTG is officially three years old. Thanks to all the fans and artists who have supported the site and contributed. Updates have come a bit slow recently since my wife was in the hospital, but i'm happy to announce that she is home and well. Expect much more coming your way in the coming weeks. More bands, more interviews, more reviews, and hopefully more of everything you're wanting out of a music blog.

  I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to support music on the site. Thanks to Matt from Run For Your Life for all the support and playing unsigned music on his radio show as well as playing the BTG song of the week every week. Thanks to Tara from A Brilliant Lie for always being there when I need a bitch session and for all of the support with the page. Way too many people to thank individually, but just know that if you've supported the site, or just stopped by to check out a band, I appreciate it. Much more to come. 

Breakout Artist Picks For 2014 - Part 1

   Here are my first picks for artists I believe will take a big leap in popularity and have a chance to break into the mainstream this year. All picks are based on the musical quality of their latest releases and the ability to market / advance / and perform their music in front of new audiences. Just my opinion, and it was a hard list to make with so many artists to choose from. 

The Nearly Deads
Some people might think that parting ways with your label might be a step backward, but The Nearly Deads seem to thrive under their own creativity and direction. If the new single is any indication of the quality of material they will be delivering, be prepared for world domination.

Anyone's Guess CD Release Party

  On Saturday, February 1st, at The Gibson showroom Anyone's Guess released their highly anticipated new cd March In The Dark. The cd is being split into two EPs for worldwide release through their label Red Dragon Records. Chapter 1 is being released on February 4th.

Review - A Brilliant Lie - Waking Vessels

   The Orlando, Florida based band is back with a new EP. Their debut release, Regarding Harry Lime remains my favorite album that I've ever had the pleasure of reviewing. I had to actually stop listening to the original release and the early demos in order to be able to listen to Waking Vessels objectively. The debut was an amazing blend of instrumentals meshing seamlessly with vocals that echoed real sentiment and emotion. Considering how highly I regarded the debut, I worried that it might be hard to match the level of artistic honesty and songwriting that was so prominent in the first EP.  If you haven't heard their original EP then stop reading right now and give it a listen here.

   We will have the new video from singer / songwriter Emily Kopp along with a review of the single on Monday. Full album pre-release review of Serendipity Find Me coming October 8th. Two Year Anniversary Of A Brilliant Lie's Regarding Harry Lime

   Two years have past since the release of one of my favorite EPs. Regarding Harry Lime remains my most listened to release to date. What makes it so great in my opinion? It could be the smart lyrics that were no doubt written by outpouring personal triumph, tragedy, and emotions on to paper. It could be the cleverly crafted instrumentals that seem to blend flawlessly with Tara's vocals. It all results in an incredible experience that hasn't worn its welcome even after a ridiculous number of playthroughs.

Review - A Brilliant Lie

I found A Brilliant Lie by accident. I will be listening to them on purpose for a very long time. Describing the style of this band is tough because they don’t mimic anything. If I were to give you any kind of comparison I would have to say look somewhere between 10,000 Maniacs and The Cranberries. Tara’s vocals most certainly have moments that remind me of Natalie Merchant, especially during the softer sections.
