At seventeen songs the album seems pretty massive, although a few of the songs are interludes that are under a minute and thirty seconds long. These short songs all feature the ukulele and seem to be an outlet for some lyrical aggression. The song "Moving On" especially puts the jabs out there with lines like "Let em spill their guts cause one day they're gonna slip on em".
The album opens up with probably my least favorite song, "Fast In My Car". Something about the chorus of this song and the overall lyrics just didn't sit well with me. Things pick up in quality from that point with the first single off the album "Now" and continue to get even better with the third track, "Grow Up", which is my second favorite track on the album. "Ain't It Fun" is without a doubt my favorite track on this album and I hope it's a sign of where Paramore is headed in the future. Featuring an upbeat tempo and a little bit of soul, this track shows that the band has plenty of staying power left.
Other stand outs are the sugary sweet second single "Still Into You", which, while cringe worthy at first actually grew on me a bit. "Anklebiters" is another up tempo fun song that has quite a few jabs roaming about in the lyrics. Some of the tracks feel a little like B sides but there is enough quality material to warrant a purchase. This isn't the disaster naysayers were predicting with the break up of the previous line up. As the line in the song "Now" goes : "There's a time and a place to die, but this ain't it". Catch up with Paramore on Facebook. If you like Paramore be sure to check out Malaya.
